Happy Birthday Welcome Center Jena: since April 2022, we have been allowed to advise skilled workers and local companies on all issues related to working and living in Jena as well as recruiting skilled workers in our premises at Teichgraben 5!

On 2 May, Mayor Dr Thomas Nitzsche, JenaWirtschaft Managing Director Wilfried Röpke, Steffen Jacobi from the Bildungswerk der Thüringer Wirtschaft, Ramona Scheiding, Head of the Skilled Workers Service at JenaWirtschaft, and our team members Johanna Scholz, Cornelia Meyerrose, Ev Sauerbrey and Dana Wunderlich reviewed the past year and looked to the future.

“It is always particularly gratifying to advise people from the very beginning. This is a very exciting process and people also know that they can turn to us with all their questions. Whether it’s job search, housing, language acquisition, career opportunities for relatives or even the first steps of settling in locally – we provide comprehensive and holistic advice.”

–  Johanna Scholz, consulting for skilled workers

Over 600 counselling contacts were made with skilled workers and companies last year. Contacts where we are available to people as a central contact point for all questions about working and living, making their arrival here a lot easier. We also have access to a tightly woven network of cooperation partners and exchange groups – true to the motto “Even if we can’t help, we know who to ask”.

“For the companies, the focus is particularly on the possibilities of attracting foreign skilled workers, process support during recruitment as well as recognition and qualification issues.”

– Cornelia Meyerrose, consulting for businesses

We are also very proud of the high popularity of the event formats. At twelve workshops and lectures at Jena’s universities, numerous regional and national career fairs and, of course, our own event offerings such as the career get-together, we repeatedly came into conversation with interested professionals, relatives and companies.

However, we also take the summary after one year as an incentive for the future: with new workshops and events as well as continuous improvement of our counselling quality through qualification and further training, we will continue to be a partner for you and yours!

Is job hunting purely a matter of luck?

A recruiter sits in front of a huge pile of applications. He takes the first twenty and throws them in the bin, unseen. His reasoning: “They're unlucky and we don't need unlucky people.” As this little joke shows, the start of an application process is a bit of a challenge. What is luck in this? What is skill? What can I influence and what not?
