Arrival and residency
When you move to Jena to work, different regulations apply depending on whether you’re a citizen of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, or whether you’re from the so-called third countries. The team at the Welcome Center recommend that you visit the ‘Quick Check’ section on the ‘Make it in Germany’ portal in advance, to check whether you are eligible to work in Germany.
Make it in Germany: Quick CheckYou may need a visa to come to Germany, depending on the circumstances and your country of origin. There are four types of residence permits allowing for a subsequent longer term stay:
- Temporary residence permit
- Permanent residence permit
- Permanent residence permit – EU
- EU Blue card
