Apprenticeship as an electronics technician for industrial engineering

‘Keep a cool head …’ Nico, apprentice at Bosch Building Automation GmbH

In der Ausbildung zum Elektrotechniker für Betriebstechnik braucht man Feingefühl.

What do you do and what do you particularly like about your apprenticeship?

We mainly install, maintain and repair control cabinets that control a wide range of systems, especially building technology such as ventilation, heating and fire protection systems. I look at the circuit diagrams, check everything and replace elements if necessary. I particularly enjoy planning work processes and tasks and also the fact that I’m always travelling a lot, as I always have to go directly to the customer.

How does your apprenticeship work?

You start in the first year of your apprenticeship at our parent company in Verl. There we learn the basics of the control cabinet, the structure, wiring, reading circuit diagrams and carrying out factory tests. In addition to on-the-job training, there is also vocational school and various supplementary courses. This is a dual training programme, a mixture of vocational school and practical experience.

What interests should you have for this job?

You should have a basic understanding of physics. Maths is important in order to be able to carry out calculations. You should be able to keep a cool head when solving a problem. A talent for craftsmanship and good fine motor skills also help. And as you have a lot of direct contact with customers, it’s also important to be good with people.

What are the future prospects in this profession?

There are a variety of training courses, courses or seminars for further training or qualification. For example, you can become a technician or master craftsman. In our company, we have our own training centre where I can learn more about programming, for example.

Azubi der Elektronik für Betriebstechnik beim Bedienen einer Maschine.
