Apprenticeship as a metalworker in construction technology
‘I enjoy working with metal.’ Liridon, apprentice at Dröschler Werkstattausrüstung GmbH

How does your apprenticeship work and what does a metalworker do?
It is a dual apprenticeship and lasts a total of three and a half years. Metalworkers produce steel and metal structures, assemble them and maintain them. Here at Dröschler, for example, we build substructures for gates and lifting platforms and take care of assembly, maintenance, inspection and repairs. At vocational school, we learn, among other things, how to join different materials together, how to manufacture metal and steel structures and how to treat surfaces accordingly.
What is your daily routine like?
In the morning, we look at the jobs, whether they involve maintenance, assembly or repairs. Then we get the materials we need to complete the job and travel to the customer. We then assemble everything there and check that everything works.
Why did you choose this profession?
I’ve always wanted to work with metal. Measuring, welding, assembling – I enjoy it.
How can you gain further qualifications?
First of all, I hope that the company will take me on. Then, in the future, I can gain various additional qualifications, such as a CNC specialist or electrician, become a master metalworker or even go on to study mechanical engineering.
