Apprenticeship as a mechatronics technician
The engineer’s right hand << Viviane-Patricia, training as a mechatronics engineer at Vistec

Mechatronics technician is one of the most popular apprenticeships. What do you particularly like about it?
I particularly like the diversity of the profession. Mechatronics engineers set up and convert the machines in the company, put them into operation, maintain and service them and must also be able to carry out repairs. Today, everything is automated and interconnected. So it never gets boring and you learn something new every day.
What areas does training as a mechatronics technician cover?
Mechanics, for example the joints of industrial robots. Then there’s electronics, such as in control cabinets for houses or robots, and IT, which also includes automation technology.
What qualities does a mechatronics engineer need to have?
They should definitely be able to do maths and have an understanding of physics. You also need to be patient, as many things don’t work the way you want them to from the outset. For example, you have relatively small components on circuit boards and it is difficult to solder the correct solder joints at the beginning. The mechatronics technician is often the engineer’s right-hand man, putting his ideas into practice and must therefore be able to think creatively. If you can’t solve the problem as planned in theory, there may be another solution in practice. That’s where I come in.
And where do you want to work after your apprenticeship?
If I’m good enough after completing my apprenticeship, I hope to be taken on by Vistec, of course. The atmosphere in the company is very informal and friendly – exactly what I wanted. Apart from that, mechatronics engineers are sought after everywhere and the world is open to you.
